Haryana Assembly Election 2014

According to sources, the term of the Haryana assembly expires on 27th October 2014, the Election Commission is keen to complete polls in the state by mid-October [10th Oct to 20th Oct] to leave time for government formationThe first assembly elections in Haryana were held in 1966. The state assembly election, 2014 will be held by the end of the year as the term of 12th Assembly ends on October 27, 2014. The Legislative Assembly comprises of 90 members whose fate will be decided by 15,594,415 voters. In the assembly election of 2009, 69 women contested out of which only nine women got elected. In the 2005 state elections, 11 out of 60 women contestants won. The main political parties of influence in the state includes Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal. Nonetheless, parties like Bharatiya Janata Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Haryana Janhit Congress are also creating a stronghold in the state.. INC has won the assembly elections in the state seven times. Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been the Chief Minister for two consecutive terms.

The Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) has joined the BJP-led NDA. In January 2014, three time INC MP Inderjit Singh joined the BJP. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is expected to contest on all the 90 assembly seats in the state. It is believed that the state might witness an INLD resurgence, because they do well in state elections. Hence, it may not be an easy go for BJP in Haryana.
